In June 2015 Sue wanted to visit her USA pen-friend since the age of 9, Sharon Holzman Cox. She was keen for Michael to meet Sharon and her husband Jack. They hit it off really well and were soon bonding over the WBG red wine and a wild salmon BBQ!
Sue and Michael began their USA adventure in New York. Staying in the Lower East Side, they spent a week exploring the various neighborhoods of New York, enjoying the quirky bars and cultural icons. A highlight was the Russ & Daughters Jewish restaurant in Lower East Side.
They then proceeded to Boston, and Newport RI. This was a highlight for Michael, who was in sailing heaven! Washington DC , with the riches of the 25 museums of the Smithsonian and all the American political history, was a contrasting and fascinating experience.
Sue and Michael then ventured to the desert of Arizona in Tucson, which was vastly different to anything Michael had experienced before, although it was the third visit for Sue. They enjoyed the fabulous Mexican food and saw the airplane graveyard and the desert museum. They understood the vibrancy of the desert – and that it’s not the rattlesnakes that will kill you, it’s the plants!
Michael then took off for a week in San Francisco/ Napa Valley to work, before returning home. Sue and Sharon had a wonderful girls’ road trip to Sante Fe and Taos. The 3K of art galleries of Canyon Road had Sue in raptures and she purchased a couple of treasures.
